  • Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is a form of vitamin D, a fat-soluble hormone found in food sources
  • Vitamin D is important for calcium and phosphorus homeostasis, and can play a role in many biological processes including cell growth
  • Vitamin D2 has a lower binding affinity than Vitamin D3 for vitamin D binding protein

Applications

  • Research studies show that Vitamin D2 treatment in rats inhibits bladder tumor promotion
  • Studies show that the treatment of lung carcinoma cells with vitamin D2 in vitro resulted in increased ACE2 protein levels
  • Vitamin D2 has been seen to interfere with prion protein oligomerization in vitro
