BD Trypticase™ Soy Agar is a general purpose medium which supports the growth of nonfastidious and moderately fastidious microorganisms.- Formula (per 1L purified water):
- 15g pancreatic digest of Casein
- 5g pancreatic digest of Soybean
- 5g Sodium Chloride (NaCl)
- 15g Agar
- Casein and soy peptones supply organic nitrogen, amino acids and longer-chained peptides
- Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic equilibrium
- Not recommended for the primary isolation of microorganisms from clinical specimens
- May be used for subcultivating bacterial strains isolated from clinical specimens to obtain pure cultures
- May also be used for further differentiation and identification
